God is our refuge and strength

19 03 2011

“God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
Though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging…

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

The LORD Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. “

Psalm 46: 1-3, 10-11

Thank you so much for all of your prayers and emails.  I am safe as well as all of our Tokyo staff with minimal damage to our homes and Student Center.  It was pretty scary and since the big earthquake yesterday afternoon there has been a steady flow of aftershocks with multiple this morning.  I read somewhere on BBC that there have been over 50??

Last night I was reading and meditating on this passage in Psalm 46.  God really is our refuge and strength and because of Him I do not have to fear.  There is peace in my heart knowing that He is sovereign, He loves me, He loves Japan, and He will come and meet us exactly where we are at.

Doing ministry here is sometimes very challenging.  The soil is hard.  Our Stint team has been praying since the beginning of our time here in September that the Lord would really move and shake the hearts of the Japanese.  That He would break the ground so the seed of the Gospel can take root.  That Japanese men and women would recognize their sin, see their need for Jesus, and accept Him as Lord of their lives.

So please join us in prayer that the Lord really uses this time of tragedy in Japan for His glory.   Please especially pray for Sendai, which is located in the north eastern part of Japan where the big tsunami hit caused by the earthquake.  There is much damage there, many people have died and there are still hundreds missing.  Pray for comfort and that the Lord really works and moves in the hearts of the people here.

Next week, March 14-17th we are having our JCCC National Student Conference where students from all over Japan involved in our ministry will come for a 4 day conference.  We are still unsure if it is happening, depending on damage to the site of the conference, but as of right now we are moving forward as if it is happening.  Please keep the Conference in prayer as 183 students and staff from all over Japan will come together for a time of prayer, praise, teaching, equipping, outreach in Harajuku and Yoyogi Park, and fellowship.

“The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. “

Blessings,

Lynds
